Understanding Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration is the leading causes of sight loss in the UK, yet many people have never heard of the condition, or know very little about what it is. As February is macular degeneration awareness month, we are going to explain a little about it to help raise awareness.

What is macular degeneration?

The macula is an area at the back of your eye that you use for seeing fine detail such as reading a book.

Macular degeneration happens when the macula becomes damaged. This can make it difficult to see fine detail, such as recognising faces, reading or watching TV.
