Presbyopia, cataracts, and age-related macular degeneration are 3 of the most common eye diseases in the UK that can develop in older age.

Presbyopia

Presbyopia occurs naturally in the eye during middle-age. It’s a condition that causes near sight loss as a result of the eye’s muscles weakening, the lens thickening and losing its flexibility. Unfortunately this tends to affect everyone, whether you’ve previously had a vision problem or not.

Cataract

A cataract often develops in the eye’s lens as a result of aging, but experts have also identified that smoking, diabetes, obesity and ultraviolet radiation from the sun can also cause cataract progression.
